Why Sandplay

I really love this technique because there is no special artistic skill required of the client, making it safe, spontaneous, playful and surprising. It is a non-threatening, non-verbal and intuitive starting point from which insight may be gained.

A Sandplay involves the creation of a diorama – utilising a library of miniature figurines to build an expressive scene in a small space (a sandbox). By creating and shaping the diorama, an evolving new world takes shape. On completion, the sand picture represents reality for the client in the here and now.

This new ‘world’ is then discussed and further explored with the client in the session, through story, narrative and other art media. The emphasis is on exploration and feeling and a search for patterns and archetypes
